Items are withdrawn from the Library’s collection throughout the year in order to remove outdated or irrelevant resources.

Items are withdrawn from the collection based on the following criteria:

  • Currency of information
  • Physical condition
  • Accuracy, authority and objectivity
  • Relevance to staff programs, research and clinical activities.

When considering withdrawing items from the collection, Library staff work with subject specialists within Canberra Health Services and the ACT Health Directorate. However, the Library Director has overall decision-making responsibility.

Items withdrawn from the Library’s collection are offered to Library members, other libraries, donated to Lifeline and other charities, set for recycling or disposal.
