The Library uses the following criteria to evaluate and prioritise recommendations for new items:
- Relevance to staff programs, research and clinical activities
- Nature and extent of the existing collection within a subject area
- Currency of information
- Quality
- Price
- Format
- Expected level of use
- Ongoing financial commitment and maintenance
- Availability from other sources.
There are additional considerations for the selection of eResources which include:
- Access methods available
- Authentication capability
- Licensing obligations
- Options for perpetual access
- Ease of use
- Reliability of electronic platforms
- Platform fees.
Library staff work with subject specialists within Canberra Health Services and the ACT Health Directorate to ensure that the collection continues to develop to meet the needs of staff. However, the Library Director has overall responsibility for the selection of resources.
Suggestions for improving the collection are always welcome, please complete the Suggest a Resource form to recommend a new item.
